Health Professions Academic Certificate
Program Description: The program prepares students to develop courses, assess student learning, and interpret results. Learning styles and other pedagogy will be discussed and application techniques will be addressed. The student will understand how to prepare lectures, design syllabi, and facilitate learning within the health professions higher education environment. Discussions regarding the faculty member’s role and the importance of scholarly activity will also be addressed.
This program is designed for individuals in the healthcare profession.

Semester Topic: Clinicians in Academia

Course Description: This course is a primer on academia and health professional education, role and responsibilities of a faculty member.
Semester 2
Semester Topic: Instructional Strategies
Start Date: Rolling Admissions each Semester
Course Description: This course presents the framework of theory and practice of various strategies in developing and delivering effective instruction. Different learning styles, types of assessments and keeping your students engaged will also be addressed.
Semester 3
Semester Topic: Course Development I

Course Description: This course presents topics on syllabus development that includes objective writing, development of lecture content outline and an introduction to lecture preparation. How to develop an active learning environment will also be presented.
Semester 4
Semester Topic: Course Development II

Course Description: This course outlines the theory and development of student assessments, appropriate selection of student assessment tools and advanced lecture preparation skills which include the integration of evidence-based practice.
Semester 5
Semester Topic: Grant Writing

Course Description: This course describes the grant seeking process, designing a letter of intent, proposal writing and executing a grant funded program.
Semester 6
Semester Topic: Capstone Project

Course Description: This course will focus on the learner developing a capstone project. The learner will integrate the content that they have covered throughout the curriculum. The course will allow the learner to analyze and apply the comprehensive information from the course to a specific academic setting while considering to the learner’s professional clinical background.
This program is offered 100% online asynchronously. There are no on-campus requirements thus providing flexibility to earn a Certificate in Health Promotion.

Official transcripts of your Healthcare Professions degree (e.g. Physical Therapy Degree B.S or higher) from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university if graduated showing at least 2.00 GPA.

One letter of recommendations from any member of the academic staff of graduating institution or employer, or current senior colleagues and consultants.
